DAMASCUS, SYRIA (7:40 P.M.) – Amid an ongoing jihadist insurgency in central Somalia, Al-Shabaab announced that three soldiers of the Somali Armed Forces had turned themselves in on Friday in the Galguduud Governorate.

After switching sides, the defected soldiers announced they were ready fight alongside the Al-Qaeda affiliated group against their formed comrades in the Somali Army.

Meanwhile, a fresh offensive was launched by Al-Shabaab in the Qasahdhere District, located in the southern part of Bay Province, were heavy clashes were reported to take place across multiple locations on Sunday morning.

In related news, ISIS’ branch in Somalia announced it had assassinated an intelligence operative in the Afgooye area of Lower Shebelle Province on December 8.
