BEIRUT, LEBANON (5:30 P.M.) – Earlier in April, the Syrian Army completely took over all rebel-controlled areas of Syria’s eastern Qalamoun region via a relatively bloodless four-day operation.
Part of the operation saw at least fifty units of armor – mostly T-55, T-62 and T-72 main battle tanks, but also BMPs and Shilkas – transferred to the Syrian Army by surrendering rebel forces.
Even more astonishing is the fact that that virtually all of the mechanized loot was in working condition upon seizure with armored vehicles being paraded and then driven off to staging areas under their own power.
According to sources, some of these captured armored vehicles are to now used in the upcoming offensive against besieged militant groups in the northern countryside of Homs province.
They will be used both on a battlefield terrain and in accordance with an operational doctrine that favors armored warfare.
