BEIRUT, LEBANON (9:00 A.M.) – Russian warplanes have been conducting several flights over the northwestern region of Syria this week, a military source in the Hama Governorate told Al-Masdar News this morning.

According to the military source, Russian Su-24 and Su-30 jets were spotted by the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) flying over the Latakia, Idlib and Hama governorates this week.

The source said the Russian Air Force had recently increased its presence over northwestern Syria following the tripartite meeting that was held at the port city of Sochi last week.

While the Russian Air Force has not conducted any airstrikes over this region, it does appear that they are monitoring the situation across the Idlib, Hama, and Latakia governorates very closely.

Recently, the violence in northwestern Syria has increased as both the Syrian Arab Army and jihadist rebels trade heavy attacks in the governorates of Hama, Idlib, and Aleppo.

Despite attempts to halt the hostilities between the two sides, the Russian and Turkish forces in the region have been forced to increase their presence in order to prevent all hell from breaking loose.
