BEIRUT, LEBANON (7:00 P.M.) – Over the last week, the Russian Ministry of Defense has sent at least three cargo ships with military equipment to the Port of Tartous in western Syria.

In the latest delivery, the Russian Ministry of Defense owned Pizhma cargo ship, which is sanctioned by the U.S. Treasury Department, was photographed transiting the Bosphorus Strait for the Mediterranean Sea.

According to maritime observer Yoruk Isik, the Russian vessel was carrying ISO container boxes of technical and military cargo.

Prior to the Pizhma’s travel to Syria, the Russian Dvinitsa-50 of the Black Sea Fleet was also seen transiting the Bosphorus Strait en route for the Port of Tartous.

The transport of this military equipment to the Port of Tartous comes at a time when the Russian and Syrian armed forces prepare to resume their operations in the Idlib Governorate.

The Russian military has given Turkey until the end of March to clear the safe zone around the M-4 Highway (Aleppo-Latakia Highway); however, thus far, the militants have refused to leave this designated area.
