During the counterterrorism operation in Syria, the Russian military has destroyed the most ruthless system in the history of human civilization – the Islamic State terrorist group (outlawed in Russia), Russian Central Military District Commander Alexander Lapin stated, who was repeatedly stationed in Syria.

“While doing our duty far away from Russia, we have destroyed the most hateful machine in the history of civilization. We all have studied medieval history, the history of fascism, what they did in concentration camps, the torture and the atrocities they came up with,” he said. “I would say that the IS may even be scarier.”

The commander added that some of the torture methods applied by the terrorists are more ruthless than those from medieval times.

Russia started its military operation in Syria on September 30, 2015, upon request of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad.

On December 6, 2017, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that Islamic State had been totally defeated on both banks of the Euphrates in Syria and on December 11, he issued an order to withdraw Russian troops from Syria.

On December 22, 2017, Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu reported to the head of state that Russian troops had been withdrawn from Syria, with only three military police battalions, the Center for Reconciliation of the Warring Parties and two bases, in Hmeymim and Tartus, remaining in Syria.

This is a Civilized Place for Public Discussion

Please treat this discussion with the same respect you would a public park. We, too, are a shared community resource — a place to share skills, knowledge and interests through ongoing conversation.

These are not hard and fast rules, merely guidelines to aid the human judgment of our community and keep this a clean and well-lighted place for civilized public discourse.

Improve the Discussion

Help us make this a great place for discussion by always working to improve the discussion in some way, however small. If you are not sure your post adds to the conversation, think over what you want to say and try again later.

The topics discussed here matter to us, and we want you to act as if they matter to you, too. Be respectful of the topics and the people discussing them, even if you disagree with some of what is being said.

Be Agreeable, Even When You Disagree

You may wish to respond to something by disagreeing with it. That’s fine. But remember to criticize ideas, not people. Please avoid:

  • Name-calling
  • Ad hominem attacks
  • Responding to a post’s tone instead of its actual content
  • Knee-jerk contradiction

Instead, provide reasoned counter-arguments that improve the conversation.

Putin, Trump, and Erdogan claim ISIS is defeated yet they’re still in the desert hiding, lying low.

Now will come the trolls with their lies and attempts at propaganda. They always fail, because their drivel is expected as part of the propaganda war from the west. It is only a coincidence that ISIS started to degrade after Russia stepped in…the west did it all. This is their story and that’s all they have, because it is all they do, tell stories. They cannot spell things out with facts, as the facts say the west is ISIS. Rescuing ISIS from the grips of defeat is the US only accomplishment, regardless of how the agents of the Zionist liars… Read more »

What utter drivel. Russia has done next to nothing against ISIS, except act as their taxi service.
