The Lebanese Army’s Central Command issued a statement on Wednesday, confirming the death of the prominent defector Atif Sa’adiddeen during a military operation in the Tripoli Governorate.

“An Army unit raided on Wednesday, at dawn, a house in Dankeh village – Akkar, where the defected soldier Atif Sa’adiddeen (from Kherbet Daoud) was hiding.

During the raid, Sa’adiddeen opened fire at the Lebanese Army soldiers, which prompted them to return fire and kill the defector.”

The Lebanese Army’s Central Command accused Sa’adiddeen of carrying out several attacks against the Lebanese people an their armed forces.

Some of the crimes Sa’adiddeen was charged with, were the following:

Sa’adiddeen joined the Syrian Al-Qaeda group “Jabhat Al-Nusra” in the Summer of 2014 when the terrorist group captured large parts of the ‘Arsal District.
