BEIRUT, LEBANON (6:45 P.M.) – The leader of the Democratic Union Party (PYD), Salih Muslim, said this week, as reported by the Kurdish-language Khabar publication, that his political group is ready to return to Damascus to restart peace talks with the Syrian government.

The long-time leader of the PYD said that his political party is ready to go to Damascus and negotiate with Damascus as many times as needed until a political solution is reached.

“We went to Damascus and we will go again until we find free people who can sit with our delegation and to let everyone know that we are free in our desires and we will maintain our character,” Muslim said.

Muslim’s comments came during a meeting in Tal Al-Abyad (Al-Raqqa) between the PYD-aligned tribes in the Euphrates River Valley region.

Previously, negotiations between the Syrian government and Syrian Democratic Council have failed, as both were unable to reach a compromise on the future of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) and political autonomy in the SDC-governed areas.

The more established the US becomes in this area the harder it’s going to be for the Syrian Government to come to a diplomatic solution with the Kurds. Do the Kurds even have the ability to negotiate the presence of US bases within their territory? I doubt it. When you bite the hand that feeds you the result is often explosive. But, then again, if that happens, maybe they’ll finally realize they’ve been used as tools this entire time—although it should already be plain as day for any of them to see.

Pretty much the position I expressed in another article, well said. I second every point made here. Time is playing into the hand of the US anyway, as the more those much-needed negotiations stall and the future of Syria as an integral federal state remain hanging in the air, the more they will keep on pressing with establishing new bases and expanding existing ones, as stone cold, unquestionable facts on the ground that will allow them to perpetuate a new status quo, which is a lasting presence withing once sovereign Syrian land, with installations, intelligence centers and assets deployed dangerously… Read more »

US see no problem at backing Assad’s presidency and unlocking money at IMF level or unlocking sanctions. They don’t even ask for Russians to leave.
All they want is Syria’s neutrality.
US never let Iraqi Kurds down, I doubt they will do so with Syrian ones.
Their credibility is too much at the stake.

What kind of delusion causing drugs are you on? Is neutrality what you call subservience? Yeah, the US was right there with the Kurds when Saddam used chems and watched thousands of Kurds die. US credibility? Oh, now I get it, this is sarcasm.

The Kurds need to negotiate with regional powers and make strong alliances and friendships for a true solution. Do not negotiate with international powers like the US, for the US have no friends, only interests.

You could have said you quoted Charles de Gaulle for “the US have no friends, only interests”.
If the interests are common, that’s OK.
The only valuable regional power is Israel. All others are dictatorships.

Israel just so happens to be an official racist state with identity laws surpassing those of the European far-right, with no recognized borders and illegally occupying almost every single country’s border lands around, with a non-recognized capital, non-recognized Golan, non-recognized occupied Shebaa Farms, non-recognized occupied West Bank and non-recognized settlements plaguing a contiguous Palestinian state, parking its inhabitants into unhealthy camps with dire living conditions denounced time and again by every single UN-affiliated NGOs, with an undeclared nuclear arsenal while not being a party to the NPT and actively refusing any inspection of its undeclared Dimona site, and known for… Read more »

Read more »

Read more »

Read more »

Read more »

Read more »

Read more »

Not forcedly. Assad knows perfectly that Syria needs reconstruction. He’s already indebted to the core and China would do a debt trap. Russia can’t align the money, Iran even less… Moreover, USN has twice as much Super-Hornets per CVN that Russia has fighters in Hmeimim, not counting what is based in Jordan, Qatar, KSA, Cyprus, etc. even IDF may end helping at cleansing Idlib/Afrin.. Remember : last February, Pompeo said US were ready to back Assad’s presidency. I’ve explained several times how Syria could take GREAT profit from it by acting clever. The only real problem for him : he… Read more »

Assad just has to give up being a dictatorial murderer and accept permanent limits on his and Damascus power.
