BEIRUT, LEBANON (1:00 P.M.) – Israel’s security is a high priority for Russia, but the attacks on Syria must come to an end, the Russian envoy to the United Nations Sergei Ryabkov told reporters on Monday, as reported by the Arabic language section of the Sputnik News Agency.

“We condemn them (Israeli airstrikes; they are illegal, but that doesn’t mean we should not care about Israel’s security,” Ryabkov said.

Ryabkov also went on to point out that Israel and Russia have improved their relations since the September 17th incident which resulted in a Russian IL-20 aircraft crashing off the coast of Syria.

Russia accused an Israeli F-16 fighter jet of using the IL-20 spy plane as cover during the Syrian air defense’s counter-attack in western Latakia.

In response to the incident, the Russian Federation made the decision to supply the Syrian military with the S-300 air defense system.

Actually, since Iran and Syria back Hezbollah and/or Hamas+PIJ and/or PFLP, as backing a [foreign] militia to perform attacks on a country is a de-facto declaration of war by the proxy’s handler, such strikes are 100% legal under the Hague convention. Russian deputy FM should remember that UNSC Res.1701 orders the disarmament of all Lebanese militias… And Russia moreover ALSO voted this. Since Hezbo is Lebanese and having refused to disarm, any UN nation is entitled at enforcing this decision. By going on arming Hezb or not preventing transfers of weapons to Hezb, Iran, , Syria, Lebanon and Russia actualy… Read more »

@Daeshbags-Sux, UNSC res 1701 does not allow IDF Lynch mobs abroad. With Your reasons Syria could attack Israel and claim to enforce UNSC res. 242. It demands: (ii) Termination of all claims or states of belligerency and respect for and acknowledgment of the sovereignty, territorial integrity and political independence of every State in the area and their right to live in peace within secure and recognized boundaries free from threats or acts of force; …”Emphasizing the inadmissibility of the acquisition of territory by war” and continues: “(i) Withdrawal of Israel armed forces from territories occupied in the recent conflict;”
