DAMASCUS, SYRIA (4:20 P.M.) – Iranian Defense Ministry released footage showing its Shahed-129 UCAVs in action against the Islamic State (ISIS) militants in both Syrian and Iraq.
The footage is a compilation featuring several missions carried out by the Iranian drones from 2014 to 2017, i.e. during the period within which the terror group has assumed large swathes of lands under its control in the both countries.
In 2017, an Iranian-built Syrian drone was downed by a US F-15E following an airstrike that targeted US-backed forces near Tanf base, southeastern Syria.
The Shahed 129 is capable of combat and reconnaissance missions and has an endurance of 24 hours. In size, shape and role, it is similar to the American MQ-1 Predator drone.
In a related context, The IRGC Aerospace Commander said the US bases in Afghanistan, the UAE, and Qatar as well as the US aircraft carriers in the Persian Gulf are all within reach of Iranian missiles.
