BEIRUT, LEBANON (7:45 P.M.) – Hay’at Tahrir Al-Sham announced on Wednesday that their security forces had arrested one of the most important Islamic State (ISIS/ISIL/IS/Daesh) commanders in northwest Syria.
According to Hay’at Tahrir Al-Sham’s official media wing, their security forces arrested the Islamic State commander Abu Khattab Kafrnaboudeh during a raid on the terrorist group’s sleeper cell in southern Idlib.
The ISIS commander was allegedly arrested inside a hideout that was filled with explosives and assault rifles.
Despite both being anti-government and jihadist groups, Hay’at Tahrir Al-Sham and ISIS are sworn enemies that have engaged in several battles against one another in the Idlib and Hama governorates.
While ISIS does not actually control any territory in Idlib, they do possess many sleeper cells inside the governorate.
These ISIS sleeper cells have wreaked havoc on Hay’at Tahrir Al-Sham’s positions over the last 18 months, prompting the aforementioned jihadist group to carry out security operations to clear several areas.
