DAMASCUS, SYRIA (12:00 P.M.) – In a gruesome development, two soldiers of the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) have been decapitated by Islamic State militants in the Tadamun neighborhood of southern Damascus.

Adding insult to injury, the mutilated SAA corpses were put on display in public with many children witnessing the horrific ordeal in an ISIS-held residential area of the capital city.

Highly graphic pictures of the offensive and its aftermath were released by Amaq Agency on Friday and have since been obtained by Al-Masdar News. Viewer discretion is advised:

Since 2014, a couple hundred jihadist militants with ties to ISIS have been based around the Yarmouk District in southern Damascus, a refugee camp which for decades has housed Palestinian families.

Ever since, sporadic clashes have erupted between ISIS and the SAA although the latter has put priority to clearing other opposition pockets in and around the capital, opting to contain the Islamic State and keep a defensive barrier around the Yarmouk Camp.

However, earlier this week ISIS launched a surprise offensive against the SAA, seizing a couple dozen buildings although most of the lost turf has since been retaken by government forces.
