The reason for this overflight by the Egyptian Air Force is still unknown at this time; however, it is highly likely that the flight was coordinated with the Syrian and Russian forces.
While it is no doubt rare for an Egyptian warplane to fly over Syria, it has actually happened before.
In 2016, Egyptian military advisers traveled to Syria to meet with their Russian counterparts; they would travel via their air force to the Hmeimim Airport in the southwestern countryside of the Latakia Governorate.
