BEIRUT, LEBANON (7:15 P.M.) – The Dutch Foreign Affairs Minister, Stef Blok, called for a no-fly-zone over the Syrian governorate of Idlib in the northwestern part of the country.

According to the Dutch Foreign Affairs Minister:

“The scale of the humanitarian catastrophe in the Syrian province of Idlib is scarcely imaginable. A million people, most of them children, have fled towards the Turkish border, which has already been hosting about 3.5 million Syrian refugees for many years now.

Many people in this new wave of refugees had already been displaced within Syria and ended up in Idlib. Since the Sochi agreements in 2018, a fragile truce of sorts has been in effect in Idlib, but with its military offensive the regime in Damascus has chosen to consign this truce to the scrapheap.

Now these same people have to flee once more from the violence of this regime, whose actions are backed politically and militarily by Russia and Iran. It is no surprise that Ankara says that taking in another million refugees is more than it can manage. And this is increasing the migratory pressure on Europe.”

He also called on Europe to step up their efforts in support of Turkey, who is currently conducting a military operation inside of Syria.

Blok concluded by pushing for the U.N. Security Council to reach a consensus on the matter so that the bloodshed in Idlib reaches an end.

But… there IS a no fly zone over Idlib already. Russia and Syria are maintaining this no fly zone and destroying all of turk terrorist aviation over Idlib. Has this Dutch person not been keeping up with events? Is there even internet in his house?

Maybe the Dutch FM should do his homework before making such ridiculous statements. Syria is a sovereign nation and Turkey is an occupier who have been supporting the terrorist since day one. I think most of those fleeing the war are extremists and their families from all over the world not from Syria.

This is called pussyfooting! He’s saying stuff the ErDOG wants to hear while, hey, UNSC won’t impose any NFZ similar to what happened in Saddam’s Iraq over Iraqi Kurdistan since Russia will veto. Thus it’s not stupid to lure the ErDOG into feeling we support his action while in fact, we’re doing nothing to help and it’s definitively NOT EU’s interests so see him succeeding, hey, even wants to steal land from Greece, Bulgaria, Cyprus and exploit gas field in EU’s EEZ! C’mon, we’re not blind… Now for sure, it’s very practical if Russia does the dirty job, especially since… Read more »

After arming all sorts of Salafist terror groups here comes the Dutch FM Stef Block again with another grandiose idea. A Dutch treat? Or Dutch courage?

They’re all very happy to be shooting on refugees who try to reach Greece, but when Syria is fighting terrorists they suddenly become sooo humanitarian. Effin wankers, mind your own business and keep your hypocrisy for yourselves

ROFL! Russia is maintaining the NFZ. Without Turkey backing the Nusra=Qaeda, TIP, ISIS etc terrorists, there wouldn’t be humanitarian issues. Yet another idiotic minister buying the ErDOG blackmail of pushing refugees into the EU while the answer is simple : blackmailing Turkey with the expulsion of the 5 millions Turkish expats living in the EU and it might be worse e.g. providing air-support to Syrian militaries and/or EU sanctions on Turkey of the same kind as the US ones on Iran… Stef Blok is just acting like Chamberlain towards Adolf. You do not appease such kind of roaches : any… Read more »

The no-fly-zone is already in place over Syria unless Dutch FM wants a special status like – WE ( NATO and Turkey) fly but YOU ( Syria and Russia) do-not-fly. Ha ha ha… funny
SS-21 Scarab or OTR-21 Tochka is built to operate in no-fly-zone and is very cheap. Syria has plenty of OTR-21 Tochka. If Russians get involved they will likely use more precise hardware such as SS-N-27 (Kalibr) or SS-26 Stone ( ISKANDER-M) hypersonic missile.

As far as I’m concerned, the Dutch FM needn’t board a plane flying over Idlib, Syria or one that’s flying over any other place in the world for that matter.
