BEIRUT, LEBANON (11:00 P.M.) – For the second time today, the Syrian Arab Air Force (SyAAF) has launched several airstrikes over the Idlib countryside.

Using their L-39 Albatross, the Syrian Air Force heavily bombarded Hay’at Tahrir Al-Sham’s positions outside of the large towns of Ma’arat Al-Nu’Man and Khan Sheikhoun.

According to a military source in the Hama Governorate, the Syrian Air Force carried out these airstrikes in retaliation for Hay’at Tahrir Al-Sham’s attack on the government-held areas.

Furthermore, the Syrian Air Force also targeted the Turkish-backed National Liberation Front’s positions in the Ma’arat Al-Nu’man countryside.

This latest round of airstrikes comes just hours after the Syrian Air Force bombed a military convoy belonging to Hay’at Tahrir Al-Sham along the Saraqib Highway in northeast Idlib.

You can’t “heavily” bomb with L-39ZA since it’s a light trainer/strike-aircraft with not even the 6th of the payload of Su-24 or Flanker and less than the 3rd of a Su-25 or MiG-27.
Even the propeller-powered Embraer Super Tucano has more payload.

L-39ZA is appreciated for its low speed and high manoeuvrability as a kind of poorman’s Su-25/A-10, other jets in SyAAF being too fast to provide close air support (or needing expensive guided weapons to do so)

I wonder what happened to Syria’s fleet of Mig-23BN. It’s been a while since they have been seen in any operations.
