BEIRUT, LEBANON (5:41 P.M.) – Forces supporting the Libyan Tobruk government under Field Marshal Kalifah Haftar are gearing up for a major operation to ‘restore security’ to the country’s southern desert.

In support of the planned ground offensive by the pro-Haftar Libyan National Army, supplies and fighter aircraft (reportedly) were very recently delivered to the Brak Ash-Shati Air Base; leading commanders of Air Force Operations Room also arrived at the military installation.

It is unclear which of the several factions opposing the Tobruk government across the country will be targeted or where exactly so.

Despite high tensions it seems highly unlikely that pro-Haftar forces will attack the Western-backed Tripoli Islamist government.

Rather the planned Tobruk government offensive will most likely target Islamic State militants who are believed to number at least 500 in Libya’s southern desert countryside.

Regarding ISIS, the last month has seen the terrorist group’s forces conduct a number of big attacks against Libyan National Army positions and bases across the south of the country.
