This morning, at least 25 new recruits were killed in at suicide bombing attack at a security compound in the city of Mukalla.
The Islamic State claimed responsibility for the terror attack moments ago, while another 25 were said to have been injured in the attack.
Pro-ISIS Amaq News agency said the attacker was a “martyrdom-seeker” who had detonated his explosive belt.
According to information obtained by al-Masdar, his name was “Abu al-Bara al-Ansari”.
Two days ago, 13 pro-Hadi Yemeni troops were also killed by al-Qaeda in the Khalf district of Mukalla, although that attack was claimed by Al-Qaeda (Ansar al-Sharia).
Mukalla was otherwise captured by the Saudi-led coalition last month, after a joint operation by UAE and Yemeni soldiers caused al-Qaeda to retreat from its self-declared capital in Yemen.
Currently, ISIS does not control any actual cities in Yemen; however, their forces maintain a strong underground presence as suicide bombings are more frequently occurring.
UPDATE: Death toll is 38 now.
