BEIRUT, LEBANON (3:00 P.M.) – The commander of the Houthi Air Force and Air Defense, Major-General Ibrahim Al-Shami, has been reported dead in Sanaa, the Yemeni group confirmed this afternoon.
According to the reports, the Houthi commander was rushed to a local hospital in the Yemeni capital this week after suffering a massive heart attack.
Al-Shami was considered the mastermind behind the Houthi air defense program and one of the highest-ranking commanders in the Yemeni group.
He helped develop the Houthi ballistic missile program which has wreaked havoc on neighboring Saudi Arabia for more than three years now.
No further details were released by the Yemeni group at this time.
