Al Shabaab claims responsibility for the Somali Youth League hotel (SYL) attack, where a large VBIED was detonated at the gate of a park at the rear of the hotel frequented by a large number of families after friday prayers, a smal force armed with AK47’s stormed the hotel attempting to take hostages.

40 minutes after the initial attack another smaller blast was heard, it is unclear at this moment if this was another VBIED or a suicide vest.

According to the federal authorities the situation is now under control, the casualty numbers are still unknown.

UPDATED:

Five terrorists (one suicide bomber) and at least nine civilians were reported to have been killed. According to local police the assailants never made it pasts the last security checkpoint. All the civilians where outside of the hotel.
