En una declaración oficial del viernes, al-Qaeda en la Península Arábiga (AQAP por sus siglas en inglés) negó que Arabia Saudí hubiera detenido a cualquiera de sus comandantes como el Reino del Golfo afirmó previamente.

Arabia saudí dijo que  había arrestado varios líderes de al-Qaeda en la región de Hadramaut, en la costa sureña de Yemen el 26 de abril. Mientras tanto, AQAP insiste en negar estos hechos.

AQAP controla grandes regiones de la parte oriental y meridional del país y combate regularmente contra las fuerzas dirigidas por los huzíes que tienen su sede en la capital de Yemen.
